What is the offer being made? Covenant Health System is offering to purchase 4 acres of parish property for constructing a primary care clinic for internal and family medicine. The clinic will support four physicians and have diagnostic and radiology capabilities. It will also welcome walk-in patients.
What has been done? The parish finance committee approved moving forward with the concept of the sale in early spring 2023. As a result, an independent appraisal was completed to determine the value of the property. After consultation with Bishop Coerver, Father David and Covenant moved forward with negotiations. A formal offer was made May 2 to purchase the property. Father David presented their offer to both the parish finance committee and the parish council and received a positive response from both.
When will construction begin on the clinic? Covenant Health System has indicated they would like to have a groundbreaking in late 2023 or early 2024. A timeline for construction has yet to be determined.
How will this benefit the parish? As Catholics dedicated to the healing ministry of Jesus, the use of the property aligns with our value system. Their offer of $1.4 million represents a $300,000 increase over any previous offer to purchase the property. With the funds the parish has on-hand and the revenue from the sale of the property, we will be able to pay the remaining sum on the loan for our Multi-Purpose Building. We can then look forward to Phase II of the Master Plan, which includes envisioning a design for our sanctuary, beginning a capital campaign, and setting a timeline for construction.
What remains to be done? A contract for the sale of the property must be negotiated and ultimately approved by the parish finance committee and the pastor. Bishop Coerver must review the contract and give final approval. The hospital would like to finalize the purchase of the property by early fall 2023 if all legal protocols have been satisfactorily completed.
